Fact Of Green Sea Turtle (reptiles)

Green sea turtles are found in more than 80 countries. They are mostly found in Costa Rica and Australia. Green Sea turtles spend most of their life underwater. They can hold their breath underwater for 5 hours. They also like sunbathe. Green sea turtles mostly eat seaweed and sea grass. Scientists believe these green foods give the sea turtle’s fat its green color. Their shell is normally brown or olive in color.

Similar to other sea turtles, green sea turtles migrate long distances between their feeding grounds and their nesting sites, with recorded distances longer than 1,615 miles (2,600 kilometers). They have strong paddle like flippers that help them swim in the water.

Females turtle will come up to the beach in order to lay eggs. They normally lay eggs at the place they are born. They dig a hole, lay th
e eggs then cover up the hole with sand. Hatchling (baby turtle) will use their “egg tooth” to break the eggs and hatch. The first few years of a green sea turtle’s life are spent floating at sea, where they feed on plankton.   As they grow older, the turtles move to shallow waters along the coast, where they find sea grass to eat.
